Senior Coach, Jason Boast offers a wealth of experience and knowledge, which he is ready to share with you at Kingsway Golf Centre. His golfing journey has seen him become a recognised coach in Cambridgeshire, working with many established professionals.
Jason started his coaching career at John O’Gaunt Golf club, the PGA East Region Headquarters at the time in the late 90s where he learnt to become a PGA professional through their training programme.
Completing his PGA training in 2000 Jason moved back to St Neots Golf Club, his home club as a junior golfer, where after a short period of time working at the club he was made head professional. This included running a successful retail business through to the day to day business of a Pro shop. He implemented a junior programme through the Young Masters Golf Academy which became really popular helping to expand the junior section at the club. Coaching the members at the time Jason started to find a real passion for coaching, he started to get great results coaching club champions and county players alike.
His curiosity of coaching moved him from St Neots Golf Club to a full time coaching position at TP Golf Academy at Hemingford Abbotts Golf Complex which later became a John Letters Academy at Direct Golf Cambridge. This is where his skills where put to the test. Running weekly ladies group classes, beginner and improver classes he introduced lots of golfers to the game from all over the region. During this time Jason was able to work and learn with some of the best coaches in the game through the PGA CPD programme and other external sources creating and challenging him to become a better coach.
He became a lead county coach and became the go to putting coach to the county squad during this time and also was a coach for Golf England working with the County Golf Partnership set up in Cambridgeshire, delivering coaching programmes at schools and leisure facilities across the county he was able to introduce golf to the masses.
At the John Letters Academy he was introduced to technology in golf with the use of video coaching and launch monitors. With the use of the tech he was able to create a real understanding of how to simply explain and implement achievable goals for his clients. Alongside his coaching with the use of technology he helped clients with all their club fitting needs.
Not just a coach Jason had an illustrious playing career. As a young golfer he played for the county squad and from this got noticed to play for the men’s county teams too. Shooting a course record at St Neots Golf Club at the age of 16 Jason became a scratch golfer before turning professional in 1996. In his first tournament and first round as a professional Jason played in the Beds and Cambs PGA championship and shot a gross 60 at the Gog Ma Gog Golf Club in Cambridge, which he won and the course record of 10 under par still stands today. He has many pro-am wins and competed in the Open Championship qualifiers with near misses after competing in final qualifying events. He still likes to compete in pro-ams and often seen playing on his days off.
Since leaving the John Letters Academy Jason was coaching at the Cambridge Golf Driving Range then at Bourn Golf Club before joining the AF Golf Store Academy splitting his time at Girton Golf Club and at Kingsway Golf Centre.
